The idea was to leave it a little longer and see if time aided memory recall of what really happened in any finer detail... well at least I now know that doesnt work either.
With the bells of Christmas still ringing in everyones ears, a scratch team of 16 slightly heavier bodies took to the newly formed bogs of Steyning to play Littlehampton in the Sussex Plate. Having played and defeated them away in the league a few months ago they were keen for revenge.
Game - as most of them do - kicked off... after some opening salvos from both teams it was Norfolk Arms to draw first blood with a fabulously well taken try by Paul (Boyo) Williams off the wing, sadly Tim Laker was unable to convert in the blustery conditions. Ali Hoare was the next to cross the Littlehampton line from some well worked forward play, again Tim was unable to find posts giving a score of 10-0. Littlehampton then broke out against the run of play and got back to 10-7. Tim missed a shot at a penalty. As is becoming a regular occurrence this season our very own burrowing no.8 popped up off the back of some sublime interplay and scored his first try of 2015, Tim missed the conversion. 15-7 at half time.
You will notice some from the timeline of this game the opening 10 of the second half was frantic... Mooey drove over the line once again and Andrew Whatley missed the conversion on about the 47 minute mark. Sadly then on an already dark and dank day it all got a little darker. Sean Alexander who was on the floor after being high tackled was kicked squarely in the face by the Littlehampton flanker, a senseless and cowardly act that has no place on any sporting field - what a twat! - this was compounded when after being sent off and standing no more than 30m yards from Sean who had to leave the field due to the injury the offender made no attempt to apologise. I will let you all know what happens at the disciplinary.
It showed great resolve that the Norfolk Arms team didn't react and in fact upped their game to crush Littlehampton completely. Tries from Chris Kelly and Richard Addy were both converted and indeed should have been added to by others.
A little frustrating was the last minute try from Littlehampton to give a final score of 36-12.
Midhurst away on 14th February for the semi final match. See you all there.
