Why didn’t the bicycle play rugby?
It was two tyred.
An so the infamous match report... Firstly a massive thank you to our very own Matty Laker for taking on the role of referee as our appointed ref was taken ill. I hope all those present will agree he did a great job.
The pitch and weather conditions were a little foggy, sticky and wet, a bit like the minds of some who had been at Nem Hoares 30th birthday party the evening before or indeed like those who had been clubbing in Worthing, this was always going to be an influencing factor on how fast the game could be played. Norfolk kicked off and from the very first hit took control of the game scoring almost instantly from some well worked play and finished off by the super-mole Matthew Hodson, sadly Tim was unable to convert giving us a 5-0 lead after 2 minutes. Norfolk continued to press through various passages of play, only to be frustrated by the final pass/kick or drive going astray and denying us more points. The frustration was eased on the 30th minute when Mooey popped up again and crossed the line, this time Tim converted giving us a 12-0 lead. A few more near missed and it was half time.
Second half was similar to the first (both 40 minutes long...). Crawley did have a purple patch where the defensive line and cover from Norfolk Arms was arguably the best we've seen this season. Tim Laker secured an additional 3 points from a penalty in front of posts. 15-0. Few more near misses, which included Mooey having a try not given for an infringement, nearly had his hat-trick and the ubiquitous jug! More pressure from Norfolk and finally on the 80th minute a penalty was awarded to us, Tim Laker elected to drop kick the penalty and secured another 3 points. 18-0 at the final whistle.
A superb game and an excellent effort from all of those on the pitch. Defence was huge, bear in mind we have now conceded just one try (in fact the only points) since our loss at home to Pulborough! Well done...
Next week there is no game as yet. Maybe get your Christmas Shopping done early as we have 3 games back to back through December!
