A great start to the season and at first glance looks like the subtle changes in training this summer have paid off.
Sadly and as ever, my short term memory of what actually happened is a little blurred. Try to keep up with the stats and realtime match analysis for the scores and subs.
In short, we opened the scoring after some aggressive recycling saw us awarded a penalty in front of the Bognor posts, Tim Laker dutifully chipped this over for a 3-0 head start. This was shortly followed by Tim chasing in a lovely break from Jez Stewart and scoring the first of our 4 tries for the day. He also added the conversion.
Karl Jackson was next to score with a fabulously well worked try, missed the conversion from out wide. this gave us a 12-0 lead.
Sadly we dropped out guard for a moment and Bognor scored a converted try against the run of play.
Half time and obviously next came the second of two halves…
Bognor decided that they didn't or couldn't carry on with contested scrummaging and asked for these to be uncontested from here on in. Sadly this deflated the game.
Ali Hoare was next to score and then another from Karl Jackson. Both converted, 1 by Tim and the other by the Paul Williams.
In the last two minutes of the game, Bognor were awarded an odd penalty and whilst our backs were turned they tripped over the line to leave the final score at 12-29 in our favour.
A great first game for this season. Rolling subs were a little hard to keep up with at times, the highlight of which meant we had Mooey & Bosch finishing the game at 10 & 12! as if the opposition 10 hadn't had a bad enough day without the brothers grimm running at him for the last 10 minutes.
Sean Alexander played his first game and made a big impact off the back row. Well done Sean and welcome…
Barns Green away next Saturday will no doubt be a much tighter affair. Hope to see you all there.
Richard.
