With great anticipation and excitement, Steyning Rugby hosted Midhurst RFC in our first home league game since early 2020.
Steyning started with gusto with three early tries. The first, from big Nathan Roberts, was a superb line hit into midfield and Nathan did his usual bulldozing charge through to the try line, Tim Laker added the extras. The second was a well worked play down the Steyning left hand side which allowed Dave Neale to pin back his ears and sprint into the corner, Tim Laker added the extras. The third try was scored from the hard work of the forwards into the opposition 22 and with quick, intricate play, Pete Carter sidestepped his way over the try line, and again, Tim Laker slotted the conversion. Before closing the first half, and in typical hard carrying fashion, Jacob Brown powered over the try line after strong team play.
Steyning played some nice rugby in the first half and carried on the scoring into the second with Pete Cay being in an opportune position to score in the corner and Sam Hutton scoring after a powerful driving line out in the opposite corner. Midhurst rallied towards the end of the game scoring two well worked tries.
Many thanks to Midhurst for giving us a good game and continuing to play through some adversity. It was awesome to play again at our home pitch and enjoy a beer in The Star post game - thank you to Chris for the excellent food and Emma for being an excellent host. Thank you to all of our supporters who came to support the team!
