Sat midway between Halloween and Guy Fawlks Night, this was either going to be a ghoulish horror show or go off with a big bang… as it happened it was both.
We played on the 3G astro pitch at Water hall in what would best be described as blustery conditions, the 45 degree sleet and tree felling winds were always going to have an impact on the game.
Once more I must apologise for the random reporting style, but I do tend to get some what engrossed in the match and have little care for post match rhetoric or reflection. In short the Police started the stronger of the two and scored two quick tries which were unconverted. 10-0. Simon Robotham got us on the score sheet with a well kicked penalty 10-3. Police scored another, 15-3 and then Iain White capitalised in some aggressive defensive work to score a try in the corner. 15-8. Being blunt our tackling during the first half was not as good as it could have been.
Half time.
Second half started at a canter with Norfolk looking to turn the game around, some much more accurate and aggressive tackling saw us take control. Sadly the Police picked up on an error and scored yet another unconverted try. 20-8. Norfolk kept the press up and finally Iain White was rewarded with his second try of the game, Simon Robotham scored the conversion. 20-15. With 20 minutes to go, both teams were feeling the effects of a relentlessly fast game and it became disjointed. With 10 to go, Police scored their last unconverted try taking the score to 25-15. Full time.
Much better 2nd half performance when we addressed the defensive issues from the first 40. Cannot fault the heart and effort put in by all.
Holbrook at home in Wiston next Saturday.
We are struggling with a number if injuries at the moment and being candid could do with a greater commitment for training on a Thursday. This is OUR club, so please help us help your club.
