Steyning head to Shoreham on the back of some good wins and showing good form. These local rivals haven't played each other since the Final of The Ken Nichols Cup in September when Steyning took the spoils!
The weather was unkind on Saturday and despite the Met Office promising some clearer skies, the rain did in fact get worse as the match went on. Shoreham were clearly motivated for this match, and got off to a flier with two very quick and hard hitting tries. It was then another 15 minutes or so before Shoreham with their attritional work off the set piece scored their third and last converted try. A Shoreham penalty kicked just before half time giving Shoreham a 20-0 lead.
Steyning tried to gather themselves and take the game to Shoreham, spending more and more time in their half of the pitch, sadly it was the dropped pass or knock on that was the undoing of so many moves, all in all a bad day at the office where we didn't adapt as well to the conditions as our robust opponents. Fair play and well done to Shoreham, who in truth beat us fair and square. Jean Paul Badenhorst was our man of the match with a huge game on the back row. Special mention for our referee who gave us all a great game and a massive hats off to the spectators who endured the weather and dwindling light without giving up on their support for our team.
Week off next Saturday and then its Midhurst at home on 7th December...
