A spirited performance by Steyning in the defeat against a very strong Chi side.
There are always good lessons to be learnt when playing superior opposition and we learnt quite a few lessons today.
Chi maintained steady scoring through both halves with some powerful runs from the centers and flankers.
The score could have been very different if it was not for some great defensive efforts all round by Steyning.
It was not all Chi attacking though, Steyning had their moments which eventually paid off early in the second half.
Steyning's dominant scrum caused Chi all sorts of problems, and when a scrum was called 5 meters out from the Chi line there only seemed to be one possible outcome. The first scrum drove powerfully towards the line with the score looking imminent Chi infringed to stop the onward march. Steyning opted for another scrum which this time could not be stopped, Matt (Mooey) Hodson controlling the ball from eight and coming up with the try.
A mention must be made to some of the newer Steyning players who stepped up to the mark today.
Adam Walkington tirelessly defended from the wing.
Della Fish and Nathan Roberts for some amazing scrum power
Al Beazley coming off the bench early, and putting a great shift in
Matt Hodson got a well earned MoM
Craig Haskins got DoD for getting injured go-karting and unable to play
Iain White well deserved whinger of the day
This must be a turning point for Chi as with their 4's being this powerful I would not like to face their 2's or 3's
Last of all a huge thanks to the sideline support which was, as always, immense.
