OK, to keep this report short, I will do the scorers, then a brief summary.
Brian was not the biggest storm in Steyning today...
Tries
Tom Hoare 1, Stu Cotter 3, Marten Tayler 1, Jon Hamley 1, Alex Pell-Stevens 1, Adam Walkington 1, Grant Wright 1, Kieron Newman 1 and Andrew Whatley 3
Conversions
Alex Pell-Stevens 2 success and 1 missed
Andy Whatley 7 success and 3 missed
Burgess Hill must be commended for their attitude and commitment, as their available numbers dropped prior to the game starting.
Steyning lent a player to ensure that scrums started contested, although a later front row injury in the first half ended this.
Steyning set about business and kept a constant mixed attack through forwards and backs with many training ground moves being executed, leading to a regular change in the scoreboard.
38-0 at half time
83 - 0 at full time
Thanks go out to Iain (Bosch) White, Tim (turned up as ref sub) Laker, and Kelly Beuth for in turn providing Burgess Hill with an extra player.
1st hattrick for Steyning RFC was scored by Stuart Cotter in a show of power and pace.
2nd hattrick went to Andy Whatley on a blitz of line breaking full back runs (3 tries in a 10 min second half spell).
Thanks to Matt Laker for refereeing an excellent game (although he was feeling poorly - hence the need for his brother to be standby ref).
MoM went to Grant Wright for an all-round great performance
DoD went to Kieron Newman for going off on random run, still have no idea where he was going?
Winger of the Match - Jean-Paul Badenhorst for have little hurt on his poorly nose :-)
One last mention must go Burgess Hill, who with an option to finish the game early, after Nathan Roberts suffered a time consuming injury. They decided this was not the best way to finish the game, and went on to complete the resultant scrum. Only for Tim Laker (remember he was on loan to BH) to attempt a drop goal (he paid for this in the bar later).
