A vague report for now, largely due to the horrors of being at Twickenham last night too.
Norfolk headed to Ditchling for what was always going to be a tough match and the second league fixture of the season.
Game got off at a canter but soon slowed as set piece was the order of the day, sadly our pack was undone by a heavier and arguably more experienced set of 8, as such any scrum restart wasn't an advantage as we lost a fair few against the head. The break down was a little chaotic too. Defence was strong as ever and we did well to keep Ditchling out despite numerous attempts.
Half time and it was 0-0.
Second half and DItchling upped the anti, scoring an unconverted try within minutes. Tim Laker then got us back in with a penalty 5 - 3. Ditchling scored a well worked try down the left, for once our tackling was less than expected. 10 - 3. Norfolk then upped a gear and worked a lovely try scored by Michael Slator, sadly Tim couldn't add the conversion 10 - 8.
Without pulling too many punches... We lacked cohesion and seemed to be slower than usual to get around the breakdowns. A big drop down from the Eastbourne match previously. There were more positives than negatives and a debut performance from Stu Yeomans was superb in the second row (despite the fingernail (and not the only finger to a face!!!) to his face meaning a blood bin sub for 10 mins).
Heathfield & Waldron next, arguably a sterner test and as such we really could help ourselves by getting big numbers at training for next few weeks??
Pictures and more comments to follow.
