Norfolk hold on at home to beat Worthing Seniors and secure second place in the league...

As has been the case in many matches in the latter half of our season, our team sheet was looking a little lighter than usual on a Thursday evening, however with some gentle persuasion we raised a team and played with a few out of position, of note Iain White back at inside centre with his son Tyler at outside centre, Roy Flower jumping into the front row alongside Mooey too, yet another display of team first attitudes that we are blessed with.

As with all of previous match reports, the finer details are lost on me, but here are some of the highlights... First try was scored by Matt Harley from the back of superb line out and maul, fair to say that Spanish was on top form through out the match. Tim Laker added the conversion and again looked as if he had left his best til last of the season. Richard Addy, aka Nutter scored the next two tries, both converted and Iain - Bosch - White did what it says on the tin with a tremendous drive over the line to give Tim an easy chipped conversion. There was one moment of relapse when we let Worthing in with a soft try, 28 - 7 at half time.

Second half and we were playing into the wind, up the slope and with the sun in our eyes (here come the excuses) but in truth it was fair play to a tough Worthing outfit that they dug in and came back at us with aplomb! They scored from broken play, 28 - 14. Then it was try of the match time, Matt Harley showing his brother PJ how to score down the left wing, again Tim Laker was sublime with his conversion, 35 - 14. Worthing then followed this with a well worked solo effort through the heart of Norfolk's defence and the conversion followed. 35 - 21. At this point Norfolk started to panic a little with 20 to go, thankfully the call to arms stopped the flow of tries from Worthing until the very last minutes when they dotted down under the posts, oddly the conversion was missed!
Final score was 35 - 26.

Great effort from both teams in warm conditions.

My man of the match was Matt Harley, simply based on his improved play from the start of the season. Every other player deserves a mention, Pops at 6 was a revelation as was Tyler White at 13. Mooey looks much happier back in the front row and both Ali & Pete Hoare terrorised the opposition in attack and defence.

Promotion to Sussex Intermediate next season will mean a tougher ask on match days. Back to training in June and try to increase our player base over the next couple of months.

Well don to you all for the hard work this year.
