After a last minute cancellation from Hove, it was off to Horsham on Saturday for a friendly fixture at their Coolhurst grounds.
After the amount of training put in recently, it was time to see how much we had picked up. The short answer is lots... from the outset we were faster and more aggressive to each phase of play in attack and in defence we were controlling.
It wasn't long before we put the first points of the season on the board with a well placed penalty kick from Tim Laker. The scoring sequence from then on was a little blurred (no one kept a record, sorry), gratefully we do know who: Paul Williams, Andy Finnis, Andy Whatley and Tim Laker each scored a try, Tim added a further 2 conversions taking the tally to 27. Horsham scored a try early in the second half, largely as a result of us losing control of the ball from a ruck!
All in all a great start to the season. A few more things to polish at training, thankfully less than we expected.
Next week we are starting our league campaign with an away game at St. Francis in Crawley.
