I was privileged to play in the very first match for what was The Norfolk Arms RFC back in 1996, 30 years ago and of those 25+ years in a central role to running our rugby club, fixtures secretary, Hon. Secretary and most recently Club Chair… there have been many changes to the game and indeed society, team sheets used to be published on pub notice board and fixtures confirmed by a device plugged into a wall! lol… what hasn’t changed is our shared passion for the game, camaraderie and long lasting friendships.
A few of my proudest moments have been having two senior teams out and playing county level 1 rugby, winning the Sussex Plate and most recently 8 years ago starting the minis section with the help of a few that are still putting in hours of work behind the scenes so that we and our children can enjoy our beloved sport and each other.
With the above in mind, be assured my decision to step down from day to day roles at our club hasn’t been taken lightly and is done with the best interests of our club, a decision made easier in the knowledge that Jim & Owain are stepping up to the ‘Golden Roles’ and have the support of an awesome volunteer group, the club is in safe hands and with increased support will go from strength to strength… I will add, please do not forget the club is run by volunteers, no one is paid for their efforts so be kind.
Sincerest regards
Richard McKenna aka Porty.
